Synopsis:

Some loves will last ’til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

My Thoughts:

WOW! I mean WOW! I can’t find the words to express how much I truly loved this story. Every Last Breath was the perfect conclusion to an amazing series that rapidly became one of my favorites, EVER! Armentrout once again works her Mitas touch with characters that capture your heart and a fresh storyline that is easy to lose yourself in, wishing it never ends.

Review:

I’ve been waiting for this book for what feels like an eternity. It’s gonna be super hard not to give spoilers but I’ll do my best. Layla has a choice to make and JLA left it in the hands of the readers which was pretty awesome, then again she’s awesome like that. The choice is between sweet Warden and childhood crush-Zayne or the sexy, enigmatic Prince of Hell- Roth. Both fine choices ( Team Roth) just saying…Anywho, she can’t very well stay with both gorgeous specimens of perfection. It’s not a perfect world, besides her heart truly belongs with one more than the other, she just needs to let herself feel it. This was such a fun experience for me, unlike anything any author has ever done and I think it was a smart move because the readers totally know best when it comes to picking the bestest, dreamiest, sexiest guy. Still I’m not gonna lie I was biting my nails with anticipation the entire time.

The story moved at a fast paced but still giving the reader plenty of time to indulge in the little moments that melt your heart. There are several twist and turns that you don’t see coming as the story unravels bringing everything together for an awesome ending.

One of the best parts of this book was finally seeing Layla come to terms with who she is, shedding that pesky shell of uncertainty and embracing every part of her. It was an amazing transformation from the little unconfident girl we first meet in White Hot Kiss, to the badass she becomes in Every Last Breath. I love that she found her place in the world, finally allowing her heart to speak freely. Together with her dream hunk, they bring out the best in each other. There were some extremely SWOON worthy moments, with some of the hottest make out sessions I’ve seen in YA to date. HOT!

Only thing I was disappointed with was a certain character not getting his HEA which truly broke my heart. I’m willing to bet though that knowing JLA she would never leave a story or beloved characters half finished so I’m pretty certain there will be more Dark Elements stories to come. That’s why I’m not too devastated about it. JLA never disappoints and she gives the readers what they want. I loved this series with all of my heart and I will miss all these awesome characters. It’s kind of a bittersweet moment to finish a series, you’re happy, sad, nostalgic; it’s a whole slew of emotions riding you up and down but you love it all the same. Safe to say I will be doing a re-read soon.

Favorite Quote:

“I, Astaroth, Crown Prince of Hell, am in love with you, Layla Shaw. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. A hundred decades from now, I will still be in love with you, and it will be as fierce today as it will be a decade later.”
