One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world

“I lost myself the moment I found you.”

It was unique, refreshing and deliciously addictive, a story-line that holds its appeal and reminds you that paranormal done well are still kick ass stories.

I have been reading paranormal books for a long time, this was my first gargoyles story and wow! It did not disappoint.  I was very excited when I first heard about the story-line since I was a huge fan of the gargoyles cartoon as a kid. Does anyone remember those? Anyways, of course, it was written by Jennifer Armentrout and that alone had my seal of approval. I have read every single one of her books, she is my favorite author and for good reason. Her stories are captivating, easy to follow and impossible to put down. Whether it is YA, Paranormal or New Adult, Armentrout never ceases to amaze, her signature SWOON WORTHY GUYS will make your heart do all kinds of crazy flips as it threatens to jump out of your chest.

White Hot Kiss was no different, it is one of those unputdownables that once you open the first page you get sucked into its magic and glued till the end.

Now I’m not all happy here, I have a bone to pick with Armentrout, because seriously that ending had me in tears, with my heart shattered to pieces, cursing the pits of hell and wanting a tattoo of Bambi, just to feel a little better.

But… Let’s start from the beginning shall we?

The story revolves around Layla, she is a hybrid, half demon-half Warden (gargoyles). Creatures created by Alphas (Hierarchy Angels) and placed in charge of keeping the balance between good and evil. She was adopted and raised at the age of seven by Abbot, the head of the clan in Washington d.c. Never truly fitting into that world, and hated by many of the Wardens just for being half demon, Layla tries her hardest to do what she can to help the cause, she can’t fight or shift like the Wardens, but she has a special ability for tagging demons, her slightest touch lights them up like a Christmas tree for the Wardens to find later and eliminate.

Despite the fact that she tries her hardest, she’s never been truly accepted by the Wardens as one of them. There is only one person she can count on, the handsome Zayne, one of the few Wardens that sees her and treats her as a person and not like the half- tainted blood, abomination everyone else sees her as. He has been like a brother to her, the only true friend she has ever had, and her secret crush. There is just one problem, Layla can’t get close to humans, Wardens, or anything  with a soul for that matter. Even a simple kiss would endanger their lives and might result in her inadvertently sucking out their soul. So no kisses, no physical attachments, no possibility of a relationship, and no true place in the world. She practically considers herself a mule… yeah life sucks and then… along comes Roth.

An alluring, tattooed, sexy as Hell, upper level demon, and did I mention he has a pet snake named Bambi? Roth is everything she has been taught to hate. The very thing the Wardens have inscribed into her brain to stay far, far away from. Of course that is the one thing that proves to be impossible for her. Layla is unable to escape the sudden appearance of this infuriating, cocky, smart-mouth demon into her life. She finds herself learning things about her past that have been hidden, things that will bring about the apocalypse and feeling all kinds of forbidden, new sensations she really shouldn’t be feeling especially with a demon and as wrong as that is, it’s the most right she has felt in all her life.

“There was something about Roth that spoke to me, all of me. Something I wasn’t sure I’d felt before”

Roth doesn’t have a soul, she can’t hurt him and the loneliness she’s always felt deep within her heart is replaced with a hot realization that perhaps she can have more than the lonely future that had been laid out for her. He makes her question everything she has been led to believe, but can she trust him and what about the family that raised her, have they been lying to her, has Zayne? Can she find the answers she needs before the impending doom catches up to her? And how can she do any of this when she can’t even form a coherent thought when she is around Roth, the boy that sometimes seems more human than demon.

When her two worlds come crashing together can Layla find the inner strength she needs to overcome the evil that’s after her? Or will she have to choose between two sides of herself?

“People with the purest souls are capable of the greatest evils. No one is perfect, no matter what they are or what side they fight for.”

Find the answers in this, riveting story that will make your heart jump into your throat.

Armentrout created a fascinating world of captivating characters and a fresh story-line that will keep you rooted to your seat, with your nose stuck between the pages. The twists and turns the story takes are engaging, thrilling and will definitely leave you craving more of the sinful sweetness that is White Hot Kiss.

Just when I thought there was no way Armentrout could outdo herself, guess what? She does.  White Hot  Kiss is the start of a new series that reverberates her name as the true artist that she is. Jennifer has the Midas touch, her stories are made of pure gold.

  1. Thank you so much for the post and giveaway! The only book I’ve read by this author is Wait for You, and I loved it. I’d love to read more from her.

  2. I just read and reviewed this book recently too! Awesome review! Completely agree! Couldn’t have said it better, and didn’t, hahaha.

Jennifer is one of my favorite authors. She can make a paranormal book kickass, but she’s also the queen of heart crushing cliffhangers for endings!! I too can not believe we have to wait till October!! Its way to long and just not fair with an ending like that!!
