In a sizzling prequel novella to her new series The Dark Elements, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.

Dez wasn’t just Jasmine’s crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining the balance between good and evil. He was her everything…right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn’t help that Jas’s father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.

And now he’s back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn’t taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again…

Jasmine is just a normal 18 year old girl, wanting to travel, to experience life and distance herself from her father and explore the world, normal right? Except Jasmine is a Warden a.k.a.  a Gargoyle! Her race had remained hidden in the shadows, an urban legend thought of as nothing more than the stone sculptures that grace the rooftops of home and churches but that couldn’t be further than the truth. They weren’t these ugly stone creatures with bulbous noses or fangs, they were beautiful creatures that could mask themselves to look like us.

“Leave it to humans to get their facts wrong, Just as they misjudged the true nature of our kind, humans also had no idea that demons were everywhere”

Six years ago there was an uprising in Hell, causing a mass exodus of demons onto Earth, forcing the Alphas- the most powerful of Angels and also most frightening to decree that the Wardens come out of the shadows because they could no longer operate without the public knowing about them. Alphas get to call the shots as they are the ones who created the gargoyles and can undo their existence.

The biggest rule that even the Demons had to follow was that the humans were to remain ignorant of the presence of Evil in the world. That our free will not be taken and our faith in Heaven and Hell exist without having proof.

This is Jasmine’s world, she lives pretty much within the confines of her Father, Garrick’s, home. As a female she isn’t allowed to help hunt, she isn’t suppose to fly high above the mountains and she can’t even go to the mall without an entourage of protectors, how’s a girl suppose to get some shopping done?! All this changes when her Father tells her “Dez has returned and he’s claimed you, you will be mated in seven days”.

Jasmine’s world is turned upside down, She had loved Dez since she was a child, they had been inseparable, best friends and more, until 3 years ago her father announced his intentions of mating Dez and Jasmine and then the next day Dez disappeared and had not been seen again. Jasmine waited for a phone call, a letter, an email but nothing came. She then mourned him, the loss of her best friend and of the boy she loved and now He’s suddenly here and claiming her, as if the last 3 years didn’t happen???

“When I turned 15 he said we’d always be together, no matter. Now I’m 18 and he’ll be 21 and he’d broken that promise the most heartless way”

She is furious, she can’t forgive him for this. But then there he is standing right before her, not quite the boy she remembered but now a man, taller and broader, cut jaw and high cheekbones with brilliant blue eyes. Then suddenly he kissed her!

Jennifer Armentrout has done it again! She has created the most wonderful world that I immediately fell in love with! From her strong female characters to her swoon worthy male leads, I just want to jump into the pages and live here!! I blew through this in less than hour as I couldn’t wait to see more of Jasmine and Dez’s story unfold! with Jasmine’s fiery spirit and Dez’s passionate love, what will become of these two?! Living their lives on the constant edge of peril in the fight between good and evil! Then She introduces Layla who is half Warden and half Demon, an abomination that isn’t suppose to exist and then Zayne, the Angelic looking Warden she adores. I. CAN’T. WAIT. FOR. THEIR. STORY!!! I highly, HIGHLY recommend reading this introduction into Armentrout’s new Dark Elements series, you will not be sorry and you’ll be ready to jump right into White Hot Kiss!!!
